There are places that were abandoned because they became too expensive to maintain.
And then there are places that were abandoned because something inside them was never meant to be found.
The Malvior Experiment is a mobile survival-horror game built around exploration, environmental puzzles, survival, and a mystery that gradually becomes deeply personal. Set around the abandoned Malvior Institute of Neurological Sciences, the game follows Arden Cross as he searches for answers about a past he can no longer fully remember.
What begins with a hidden file in his own home eventually leads him to a forgotten biomedical institute, a secluded residence, a remote fishing village, an abandoned train station, and a network of underground tunnels where an experiment has continued far beyond what it was ever supposed to become.
And at the beneath the earth is also the Central Neural Core.
A Tragic Past. A Hidden File. A Truth Buried for Years.
Arden Cross has spent years living with the consequences of a night he cannot completely remember.
His wife and children died in what police ruled a brutal felony murder. Arden survived, but the memories of that night never came back to him clearly.
He learned to live with the gaps.
Until one ordinary night.
A sudden power blackout sends Arden into his home office to restore the power. When he closes the fuse box, a bookshelf suddenly collapses after his pet knocks into it, sending books crashing across the room.
Among them is a file.
A file bearing a name Arden has never seen before.
The Malvior Experiment.
Inside are records connected to Arden himself.
The discovery forces him to make a decision: continue living with a story he never understood, or follow the information hidden inside the files and find out what really happened.
That search leads him toward the abandoned Malvior Institute of Neurological Sciences.
Arden is looking for answers.
He doesn't yet know that the people inside the institute have been waiting for him.
What Is the Malvior Experiment?
The experiment began decades ago under the direction of Dr. Malvior, a scientist obsessed with the possibilities of neurological control.
Malvior wasn't interested in simply creating another medical treatment.
He wanted to go much further.
His original vision was to create human subjects who could continue fighting without fear, pain, hesitation, or disobedience. Soldiers who would not stop. Soldiers who could be controlled.
But controlling an individual human brain was only the beginning.
The research eventually moved toward something much larger.
The Neural Parasite
A parasitic organism was developed to interact directly with the human nervous system.
The parasite could alter neural activity and influence its host.
But a single infected host wasn't enough for Malvior.
He wanted centralized control.
One mind.
Many hosts.
That idea eventually led to the development of the Central Neural Core.
One Brain Was Never Enough
The Central Neural Core was designed around a terrifying principle:
Multiple neural systems could be connected into a single centralized network.
The experiment evolved from individual subjects to interconnected hosts, and eventually toward a single massive organic intelligence capable of influencing other infected brains.
The giant brain at the center of the underground facility is not simply another experiment.
It is the culmination of years of work.
The Central Neural Core is the heart of the network.
The infected are no longer simply patients.
They are part of something bigger.
And Arden's connection to that system is far more significant than he realizes.
Arden Was Not a Random Victim
One of the most important mysteries surrounding The Malvior Experiment is Arden himself.
Why is his name attached to the project?
Why does Malvior recognize him?
Why did Arden survive when other subjects did not?
And why are there gaps in his memory?
The answers are tied to the earliest days of Malvior's research.
Arden was not an ordinary participant who happened to become involved later in life.
His connection to the experiment goes back much further.
What Arden eventually discovers forces him to reconsider the memories he has trusted for years.
The truth about his family is not simply a missing piece of his past.
It is connected directly to the experiment.
The Malvior Institute of Biomedical Sciences
The institute itself is one of the central characters of the game.
At first glance, it looks like an abandoned medical and research campus left behind years ago.
But exploring it reveals that there was much more happening there than ordinary academic research.
The institute contains offices, medical spaces, laboratories, records, security areas, restricted sections, residential areas, and hidden routes leading deeper underground.
You aren't simply walking through a haunted building.
You're moving through the remains of a functioning research operation.
Doors are blocked.
Areas are inaccessible.
Tools are scattered throughout the complex.
Systems still operate.
Old mechanisms and security systems must be bypassed.
And the deeper Arden goes, the more the facility begins to reveal what happened there.
Exploration Is Part of the Mystery
The Malvior Experiment is designed around interconnected exploration.
Players will move beyond the main institute into different parts of the surrounding world, including:
The Main Institute
The heart of the game.
Explore abandoned rooms, research areas, offices, hallways, security facilities, and restricted sections while searching for the tools and information needed to progress.
Malvior's Residence
A much more personal location.
Unlike the abandoned institute, the residence still feels like a place where someone once lived.

Among its secrets are two particularly important discoveries:
The key to Malvior's office.
And something much more dangerous.
The Fishing Village
A separate location player could find fishing rod here, that can be used to recover lost items from the sea.
Fishing Village has an escape route through the seas, players can complete the puzzle to escape through a ship parked in the ports.
The village expands the world beyond the research campus and gives Arden another place to investigate while following the larger mystery.
The Train Station
A remote railway location close to the main building, train usually halt there for 30 seconds, players can time this window to escape through the train.

The Underground Tunnels
This is where the game's mystery becomes something much larger.
Hidden beneath the institute is a network of tunnels and excavated spaces leading toward the experimental chambers.
The deeper Arden goes, the less this looks like a normal research facility.
Puzzles Built Around Desperation
The game isn't designed around abstract puzzle-room challenges that exist simply to make the player think.
The puzzles are meant to feel physical and understandable.
A door has been blocked.
Find a way to clear it.
A fence is electrified.
Find the way to disable it.
A room is inaccessible.
Search another part of the building for the tool that lets you continue.
A forgotten mechanism still controls access to somewhere deeper.
Figure out how the facility was meant to work, then use it against itself.
The goal is to create the feeling that Arden is forcing his way through a place that was never meant to let him reach the truth.
Tools Matter
Every useful item should have a purpose.
Crowbars.
Pliers.
Screwdrivers.
Keys.
I-card.
Pepper spray.
Shotgun.
Explosives.
The game avoids turning progression into endless key collecting. Instead, items are meant to create meaningful access and allow the player to interact with the environment in different ways.
Sometimes the answer is a tool.
Sometimes it is finding another route.
Sometimes the player has to return to a place they visited earlier with something they couldn't use before.
The world is designed around these connections.
The People Still Inside
Arden isn't alone.
Dr. Malvior
The man behind the experiment.
A scientist whose obsession has continued long after the original work should have ended.
Malvior is not simply someone who wants Arden dead.
Arden represents something much more important to him.
A subject who survived when he should not have.
A failure that may have actually become a success.
The Jailer
A trusted helper of Malvior who operates inside the institute.
The Jailer knows enough to understand that something important is happening beneath the facility, but Arden's identity is initially unknown to him.
To the Jailer, Arden is simply an intruder.
A trespasser.
And eventually, a prisoner.
The Jailer can capture Arden and throw him into a cell, turning captivity itself into another problem the player must overcome.
Malvior's Wife (still to be added)
Malvior's residence has another protector.
She is fiercely loyal to her husband and sees Arden as nothing more than an intruder who has entered her home.
She doesn't know Arden's identity.
She doesn't know the whole history.
She simply knows that someone has broken into her house.
And she's not willing to let him walk away.
You Won't Always Be Able to Run
Survival in The Malvior Experiment isn't about having a weapon in your hands at all times.
Resources are limited.
The player has to decide when to fight and when to escape.
A shotgun provides a way to fight back when things become too dangerous.
Pepper spray offers another option when the player needs a few seconds to escape an enemy at close range.
The objective isn't to turn the game into a shooter.
Combat exists because sometimes running isn't enough.
The Central Neural Core
Eventually, Arden reaches the place where everything leads.
The massive underground chamber contains the Central Neural Core inside a heavily protected structure.
Around it are rows of green incubators containing infected hosts.
This is where the meaning behind the experiment becomes impossible to ignore.
The Core is not an ordinary computer.
It is organic.
Alive.
Connected.
And still part of the network.
The player will eventually discover what Malvior built, why the infected exist, and what the Core is capable of.
And then the situation changes.
The Final Destruction
Arden doesn't come to the underground chamber simply to look at the experiment.
He comes to end it.
To destroy the Central Neural Core, he must gather the equipment necessary to demolish the structure:
TNT.
A detonator.
A remote control.
The explosive setup becomes the final objective.
But destroying the Core is not as simple as walking into the chamber and pressing a button.
The incubators contain infected hosts.
And when the containment system fails, they don't stay inside.
They rush toward Arden.
The shotgun suddenly becomes more than something useful to have.
It becomes the difference between reaching the Core and being overwhelmed before the job is finished.
The player must survive long enough to place the explosives, reach safety, and trigger the demolition.
If everything goes according to plan, the Central Neural Core will be destroyed.
The experiment will finally come to an end.
But Arden's Story Is About More Than Survival
The deeper mystery of The Malvior Experiment is not simply:
“What happened inside this facility?”
It is:
“What happened to Arden?”
Why was he Subject 001?
Why was he connected to the experiment?
Why did he survive?
What happened during the night his family died?
What exactly did the parasite do?
And how much of Arden's own memory can he actually trust?
The game gradually brings those questions together through the locations Arden explores, the people he encounters, the remnants of Malvior's research, and the systems he uncovers beneath the institute.
Built for Mobile Horror
The Malvior Experiment is being developed specifically as a mobile survival-horror experience.
The game is designed around the intimacy of playing horror on a handheld device: headphones on, screen close, and the player directly inside the first-person perspective.
Rather than relying solely on constant jump scares (it got some jumpscares), the game focuses on atmosphere, exploration, environmental storytelling, puzzles, pursuit, resource management, and the feeling of being trapped inside a place that was never meant to be entered again.
The goal is simple:
Make the world feel close.
Make the player feel like there is nowhere comfortable to stand.
And make every new room feel like it could contain the answer they've been searching for.
